May 23, 2022 Campsite near Cottonwood Creek at mile 534.9 to campsite at mile 558 23.1 miles DLT shakes me awake. “Petra’s leaving,” he says. I sit up and see her, pack on, ready to go. I give her a little wave and then immediately lie back down. I will not be moving any time …

Oregon! What a delight so far.
On the morning of July 30, we had no idea that the rapidly growing McKinney fire had already closed part of the PCT and that another fire further north was closing off part of the trail in Oregon. We just sauntered down the road in search of pancakes at the Seiad Valley cafe, only to learn that not only the cafe but also a section of the trail had been closed and the town was being evacuated.
NorCal: Land of Burney Falls, friendly towns and their churches, burns, geysers, floofy flowers, deep orange sunsets, heat, creeks, and deciduous trees mixed in with the pines. Mt. Shasta has been looming for ages like an awesome spirit, and now, suddenly, it is so close.
Halfway to Canada! 🇲🇽➡️🇨🇦
I hiked alone for a couple of days last week. The asters and lilies were my company and the soft pink sunsets caressed me to sleep.
I wasn’t sure what to expect of the PCT from South Lake Tahoe to Sierra City, but it has blown my mind.
