PCT Day 6: Heaps of Flowers and Julian Again

On April 26, 2022April 25, 2022 By Sarahmarie Specht-BirdIn Pacific Crest Trail, Thru-HikeLeave a comment

April 24, 2022 Mile 68.3 to mile 80.4 12.1 miles I wonder how long it will be on this trail until I sleep through the night? I had another subpar night of sleep, but I still feel much more rested and pleasant today. I think I’m packing up quickly until I realize that Andy and …

PCT Day 5: Heaps of Miles

April 23, 2022 Mile 47.7 to mile 68.3 20.6 miles I wake up to condensation and turkeys gobbling. I think I have more time than I really do, so I make a leisurely coffee in my tent—my first in two months—and sip it slowly. Andy comes over and asks if I’ll be able to pack …

PCT Day 4: Unplanned Zero

April 22, 2022 Campsite at mile 47.7 to Julian via hitch on Sunrise Highway 0 miles Yet another night of hardly any sleep. This time it was because of the wind, rain, sleet, and now hail that pummeled the tent all night. It’s still standing when we wake up, amazingly, but it is a precarious …

Four years ago today, I started hiking north on the Appalachian Trail. I had no idea what I was getting into and no idea what thru-hiking would do to me.
IT’S A ZINE! I’m beyond thrilled to announce that my PCT zine is finally here. 🥰
Rest in peace, sweet Emma. You were the cutest, silliest, fluffiest best friend. I will miss you so much.
I couldn’t feel my toes most of the time I was in Nuremberg, but it’s okay. I still absolutely adored it.
I knew Christmas in Germany would be magical, but the Stuttgarter Weihnachtsmarkt totally blew me away.
Frankfurt has lots of cool stuff. For starters, there’s apfelwein, or apple wine, served from a ceramic jug called a bembel (which I am low-key obsessed with). There’s handkäse mit Musik, “cheese with music,” which is so named because it makes your stomach do crazy things. Then there’s grüne Soße, green sauce, which is dill-licious. And obviously, there is the Christmas Market.
